Deepening the Bond Between You and Your Best Friend
Hey guys! My name is Courtney. I am the dog trainer/walker that you have been missing all your life. :) Congrats, you found me!!
Dogs or really, animals in general have always been an obsession of mine for as long as I can remember. My parents have always had pets, my grandparents, cousins, siblings, etc. Having a furry companion just feels normal. I mean, who knows what normal really is anymore, but having someone greet you with a wiggly body and kisses just feels right! My fiancé won’t greet me like that, so pets it is!
I remember when I was really little, probably about 7 or 8, I was spending the summer with my MawMaw and PawPaw in Wrens, GA. They lived on a dirt road with a farm right next door. The cows would be so annoyed that I was talking to them, but I didn’t care. MawMaw, my 2 brothers, and I would take walks down the dirt road, eat honeysuckle, and see what kind of animals we could find. On one of those walks, we found a tiny little black lab puppy. I named him Midnight (typical!). He was covered in fleas, and now that I think back, he was incredibly sick. I couldn’t care less. I took that puppy back to the house, steadily being bit by bugs. I wasn’t allowed to take him into the house so PawPaw gave me a big cardboard box. I gave him some water, a blanket, food. washed him off with some dawn and the water hose out back. That puppy was mine and all I cared about. I even slept outside with him on the screened in porch. Two days later, we had a really bad Georgia summer storm and I went inside to sleep that night. The next morning I woke up to a weak little puppy who had passed in the night. My world was absolutely destroyed.
I knew right then that helping/being with animals was what I wanted to do. Veterinarian? No, I can’t stomach seeing animals euthanized. My heart breaks seeing an animal so sick or hurt. Ok, well I have a crazy obsession with sea turtles, so Marine Biology was the new “it”. Couldn’t convince me otherwise. Until college time came and…well lets say that College Algebra and I didn’t get along. So I ran off to W.Va for a bit to see what I wanted to do with my life. Taught Pre-K at a daycare, became a nanny as well. I loved it, just wasn’t what I wanted. Came back home to GA, started working at a local Dog/Cat boarding, grooming, and daycare facility. (Sigh) Now I’m where I belong.
That facility was my home for the past 13 years. I grew up there, and I thrived there. Until I didn’t anymore. I yearn for growth, for knowledge, better understanding what makes animals behave the way they do in different situations. I threw myself into learning more and more about animals. I met my fiancé at that facility. He was bringing his dog for daycare. Max. A beautiful big ole boy who had crazy separation anxiety. I wanted to help him, so I dove in even more into learning animals’ minds.
Becoming a dog trainer was all I could think about! Learning the science behind these fluffy and adorable animals made me excited all over again. So I started learning how to train at CATCH (Canine Trainers Academy).
Now I’m here, telling you guys my story. Y’all, I care so deeply for animals. Dogs, cats, lizards, birds, frogs, raccoons, (maybe not so much bunnies…their eyes scare me), etc. They are so innocent and just act out of instinct. Understanding that instinct is what is so fun about what I do. I observe, take notes, and use my knowledge to help animals and humans too!
If you are searching for a way to connect and bond more with your dog, I’m here to help. If you are searching for someone to tire out your pup before you get home from a long day at work, I’m here to help. If you are searching for someone to check on your kitties or reptiles, while you take a very much needed/deserved trip away from home, I’m here to help.
I have 3 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 cats and a fiancé…you are not alone in this crazy life! Message me, let’s chat!
